Iran Executes Political Prisoner

Iranian authorities executed on Sunday a dissident political prisoner on charges of “waging war against God,” according to opposition leaders and human rights activists tracking the situation.

Gholamreza Khosravi, a 49-year-old Iranian political dissident, was hanged in prison early Sunday due to his support for the People’s Mujahideen Organization of Iran (PMOI), an opposition group that seeks to overthrow the ruling regime.

Iran's Nuclear Weaponization Researchers Are Still At Work

The International Atomic Energy Agency and Iran last week issued a joint statement in which Tehran pledged to apprise the Agency of "the initiation of high explosives, including the conduct of large scale high explosives experimentation in Iran." In a word: weaponization, the most secretive dimension of the Iranian nuclear program. Tehran's willingness to broach the topic will be hailed by supporters of the current talks as a sign that they're yielding results.

Ban Ki-moon rebukes Iranian president for human rights failings

The UN secretary general, Ban Ki-moon, has sharply rebuked the Iranian president, Hassan Rouhani, for failing to improve human rights since taking office in August.

Despite "commendable steps" under Rouhani, including the release of a limited number of high-profile political prisoners, violations had continued, Ban reports in a new report to the UN human rights council issued on Tuesday.
